❓ Frequently Asked Questions
ASCII art is a graphic design technique that uses printable ASCII characters (letters, digits, and symbols) arranged to form pictures or stylized text. It originated in the early days of computing when terminals could only display plain text, and it is still widely used today for visual decoration in plain-text environments.
You can use ASCII art in code comment headers (e.g. at the top of a source file), terminal/CLI program splash screens, forum and social media signatures, GitHub README project titles, email signatures, in-game text displays, and any other plain-text environment.
The classic ASCII art fonts are built from graphics made of English letters and symbols, so non-English characters will fall back to the plain text. The "wide block" style renders any character (including CJK) with broader glyphs for a more decorative look.
